Florida Individual Health Insurance and Deductible Credit

One of the interesting benefits that Florida health insurance companies have come up with is the Deductible Credit. The Deductible Credit benefit is included in all United Health One - Golden Rule health insurance policies.

This is how the Deductible Credit works: If you do not satisfy the prior year deductible, you will receive a 20% Deductible Credit for the current year. This credit can accumulate from year to year, up to a total of 50%.

For example, lets say you have a $5,000 deductible the first year of your Florida health insurance policy. If you don't satisfy or meet the deductible in the first year, then the second year your deductible drops to $4,000 (you get a 20% credit). And if you don't satisfy you deductible in the second year, then the third year your deductible drops to $3,000 (another 20% credit). If after 4 years you do not satisfy your deductible, your deductible would be $2,500.

So, you can save money now and take a high deductible Florida health insurance plan with a lower premium. If you stay healthy from year to year, your deductible will drop with the Deductible Credit benefit.

I think individual health insurance is like a race car: you put a lot of money in it, but if it is not tuned correctly it will not perform the way you need it to. Now that health insurance reform is being implemented, you need to take a second look at your individual health insurance policy to make sure you have the right coverages and benefits at a price you can afford.

New Rule Could Force Some Health Insurers Out Of Business

A new rule in the health insurance reform law requires insurance companies to spend a certain amount of premium dollars on health care. Called the "Medical Loss Ratio" rule, insurance companies will have to spend 80% to 85% on health care for customers instead of on their own profits or overhead.
