Bankers Insurance (First Community) Seeks 23% Florida Homeowners Rate Increase

I found out today that Bankers Insurance (First Community) is requesting a statewide average 23% rate increase on homeowners insurance from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

The amount of the increase will vary from county to county. As soon as we receive additional information from Bankers, I will post it to our blog.

Oil Spill And Bankers Insurance Company - What's Covered?

Will homeowners insurance or business insurance pay for damage from the oil spill?

Bankers Insurance Group issued this BP Oil Leak Preliminary Stance Letter to advise policyholders how Bankers view the coverage issue. Here is a summary:

• Homeowners 3 - Special Form: No coverage for damage to land. "Wind-driven oil" would be covered. Mandatory evacuation without direct damage would not be covered. Pre-storm evacuation would not be covered.

• Business-Owners Policy: No coverage for damage to land. "Wind-driven oil" would be covered. Pollution and oil cleanup may be covered up to $10,000. No coverage for loss sales or loss of market value.

• Dwelling 3 - Special Form: No coverage (not even for "wind-driven oil").
